Historic Inns of North CarolinaOur History Graystone Inn, originally "The Bridgers Mansion," was built in 1905-1906 by Elizabeth Haywood Bridgers, widow of Preston L. Bridgers, local merchant and son of Robert Rufus Bridgers, past president of the Atlantic Coast Line Railway, founder of the Wilmington/Weldon Railroad, and two time representative to the Confederate Congress.
The spacious sunlit parlor and sitting room features comfortable sofas, chairs and period antiques. The adjoining music room is graced with a baby grand piano, which is kept in a state of concert readiness. A stunning mahogany-paneled library, and elegantly set dining room all complete the vast ground floor of the Inn. Made of hand-carved oak and rising three stories, the grand Renaissance-style staircase envelopes the Ballroom. The exquisite garden and terraces provide a most relaxing atmosphere year round.
